What should I do with my soft plastic now?
The most important action you can take is to minimise your use of soft plastics...
Please do not put soft, scrunchable plastics in your kerbside recycling bin (unless the Curby program is available in your area). The majority of councils in Australia can not accept soft plastic for recycling because it jams the automated sorting machines.
For the short term, soft plastics will need to go in the home rubbish bin.
Will the program resume?
Governments and sectors across the supply chain are working to bridge this gap in our recycling infrastructure and step up our progress towards better resource use, reduction of emissions and the circular economy.
Discover why soft plastics collection is not soft plastics recycling
The good news is that all state and territory governments have now introduced or plan to introduce bans on many problematic single-use plastics.
When it comes to recycling, we need to stay up-to-date and look beyond our kerbside bins!
