Schools Litter Sculpture Competition - Nature Reimagined
Instructions on how to enter and prize information forms part of these Terms and Conditions. Participation in this competition is deemed as acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
The promoter is Clean Up Australia Ltd (ABN: 93 003 884 991) of Level 4, 233 Castlereagh St, Sydney 2000 (Promoter).
The Competition is a game of skill, and chance plays no part in determining the winners.
Each valid entry will be individually judged based on the innovative and practical merits of all aspects of the Competition Process, as determined by the judges.
Competition Guidelines:
Entries
The competition is open to school students in primary and secondary schools in Australia who have registered to participate in Schools Clean Up Day in 2025.
Entries are by individual students only. Each student must submit only one entry. Entries must be submitted to either the Primary School or Secondary School category. Multiple entries from one school are permitted as long as each entry is different, unique and created by a different student.
Materials
The litter sculpture must be made of found and/or discarded items. Materials should consist of litter collected from school grounds and community areas, and/or found objects and repurposed materials like packaging, before they are wasted or discarded.
Types of litter and materials that can be used (but not limited to) include plastic bottles, bags and containers, bottle tops, fishing line, aluminum drinks cans, balloons, straws, single use cutlery and utensils, coffee cups, and other miscellaneous rubbish items.
Please make sure your litter sculpture is made from clean materials and ensure safety precautions (for example, taking care of sharp edges) are taken whilst building your sculpture.
We discourage the use of some litter items commonly found at Clean Up events including glass bottles, cigarette butts, napkins and tissues, batteries and vapes.
Please do not use new materials.
Size Limit
Please ensure your sculpture is within a general size range of 30 cm to 120 cm.
Competition Process
To enter the Competition, the following criteria must be addressed (Competition Process):
(i) Ensure entrant’s school has registered a 2025 Schools Clean Up event with Clean Up Australia.
(ii) Submitted images of sculpture must depict an original creation. Sculptures must not be plagiarised work. Sculptures must not be overly derivative from pieces found on the Internet, in media, or elsewhere. If a litter sculpture is created as a response piece to another work, a note must be included with the name and creator / artist of the work referenced.
(iii) Entries must be submitted online via the Competition Digital Form located at cleanup.org.au. Entries submitted by any other means will not be included.
(iv) Entries must include the name, age and school of the entrant and the name, email address and phone number of the entrant’s teacher, Principal or other authorised school representative as directed in the competition digital form.
(v) Please provide up to 4 images and optional video. Please attach a minimum of 1 image of litter sculpture, an image of the artist with their sculpture and the option to provide video of the creative process)
(vi) Entries must be received by 5pm AEDT on Monday 31 March, 2025.
Competition starts at 09:00 AEDT on Tuesday 4th February 2025 and concludes 17:00 AEDT on Monday 31 March 2025. (vi) Entry is open only to school-aged residents of Australia (primary & high schools). The immediate families of the Promoter and suppliers, associated companies and agencies are ineligible to enter. Entrants from outside Australia will be disqualified.
(vii) Multiple entries from one school are permitted as long as each entry is different, unique and created by a different student. Only one entry per student is permitted.
(viii) The promoter selects all winning entries based on merit. The promoter’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. Prize for each category will be transferred to teaching staff, not to a student. The teacher is responsible for passing the student prize to the student, and the school prize to the school.
(ix) Prize is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. No responsibility is accepted for any variation in the value of the prize.
Major prize package:
A Major Prize Package is awarded as first prize for one winning entrant in each category:
- Primary School (5-12 years)
- Secondary School (12-18 years)
Runners Up prize package
The Promoter will select 8 entrants in total chosen from across both primary and secondary categories. These 8 entrants will receive one runner up prize package:
The Promoter reserves the right to, at any time, verify an entry or entrant and disqualify an entrant the Promoter has reason to believe has submitted an entry not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
Judging the winners
All entries will be judged against the following criteria:
- Emotional, intellectual, artistic response
- Creative response to the theme: Nature Reimagined
- Originality / uniqueness of the design
- Use of materials
- Environmental message
The winning entries will be determined by the judges. All entries will be judged between April 1 – April 11, 2025, by Promoter’s chosen judges. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The two category winners names, age and school, and the photo of the artist and their winning entry will be announced and published on Clean Up Australia's website on Friday April 18, 2025.
Winners and their teacher/school contact will be notified. If the winners do not claim the Prize within seven days, the Prize will be forfeited. To claim a Prize, winners must provide the Promoter with an address and school’s staff member contact name for the delivery of their prizes. The prize provider will have the prize sent to the winning school within 15 days from the date the Promoter receives the delivery address from the winner.
All entrants in the competition grant first publishing rights to Clean Up Australia. It is a condition of entry that materials submitted to the competition may be used by the Promoter for their own promotional, marketing and publicity purposes without restriction.
The Promoter reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate the competition without notice.
The Promoter is not liable for any loss (including loss of opportunity) or damage (including, but not limited to, direct, indirect or inconsequential loss) or personal injury in relation to this competition or the use of, or participation in, the prize.
Privacy Statement
Any Personal Information collected in connection with this competition will be handled in accordance with the promoters Privacy Policy. In the course of this competition the Promoter will collect and use Personal Information from entrants, and it is a condition of entry to this competition that an entrant provide the Personal Information to the Promoter referred to in clause (iii) above.
If an entrant does not provide the Personal Information required by the promoter, then that entry will be discarded. If any Personal Information provided to the promoter is inaccurate or incomplete, then that entry will not be eligible for any prizes under this competition.
By entering this competition, you consent to your Personal Information being collected, used and disclosed as set out in this competition, and otherwise in accordance with the promoter's Privacy Policy.
By entering this competition, you also consent to the promoter using your name and contact details for future promotional, direct marketing and publicity material by the promoter. Entrants may opt out of receiving such information by contacting the promoter's Privacy Officer.
In this clause the following definitions apply:
"Personal Information" has the meaning given to it under the Privacy Act.
"Privacy Act" means the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
"Privacy Policy" means Clean Up Australia Ltd's privacy policy available online at: https://www.cleanup.org.au/privacy.
